Tavi And Jane Pratt To Start Sassy Magazine 2.0, Only Not
Ok, *this* is the sort of magazine news I can actually get behind: former Sassy Magazine editor Jane Pratt and 14-y-o fashion blogger superstar Tavi Gevinson are starting a magazine inspired by Sassy for "wallflowery teenage girls."
Ok, despite the fact that I am way the fuck too old to be reading a mag for teenage girls, Sassy was pretty much the first magazine that "spoke" to me in a real way. And kind of made me, a little bit, think that maybe I could actually be a writer too. And that probably makes all y'all want to barf, so I have happily provided a motion sickness bag along with this post [just scroll to the bottom and print out the pdf that says "barf_bag_001.pdf...ok, KIDDING, PPL. Totally just kidding).
Anyway.
Tavi has confirmed this amazingness on her blog as well, and now they're actually looking to staff up.
I have a few thoughts:
- The fact that this isn't an announcement about the "NEXT HOT ONLINE MAGAZINE" makes me want to make-out with babies and ride unicorns throuh Central Park.
- I know there are some Tavi haters...and I'm not quite sure why I'm not one of them--but I'm just not. Having said that, it seems like Tavi is way the hell more appealing to adults than she is to teens, so not sure how that will play out?
- Despite the fact that Tavi makes me feel completely fucking incompetent because she's 14-years-old, and way the hell more together than I am (as a writer, critical thinker, and, basically, human being), if ANYONE can pull this off, I honestly think that she probably can.
- Jane Pratt could start a magazine about bouncing rubber balls or puppy couture, and I'd still sign up for a 2-year subscription. Sassy completed me.
- They're trying to lay off the Sassy comparisons too much, because they can't recreate now cause times have changed, and blah, blah, blah. However, I think they should embrace all this Sassy b.s. cause we all LOVED THE SHIT OUT OF SASSY.
How in the HAYL has Jezebel not commented on this development yet? What do you ppl think about all this??
