[WHERE I BLAHG]: Jauntsetter
Each week we'll pull back the curtain, and give you an insider's look into the lives of some of your favorite bloggers with 'Here's where they blahg.' This week: Dorothy McGivney from Jauntsetter.
Honestly, I subscribe to like 11 million billion daily and weekly newsletters that roll into my inbox, and Jauntsetter is like one of the only ones that I truly look forward to each and every week. For those of you not in the know, Jauntsetter is this fab, weekly, chock-full-o-allllllllll sorts of good shit travel newsletter, geared toward all of us chumps that live in NYC. There are killer ideas for easy weekend getaways, tips on cheap airfares, and a weekly Jauntsetter of the Week interview (I was lucky enough to be featured several weeks ago!). Are you ppl subscribed to this shit? Cause if not, you best click your ass on over there, put in your info right now, and sign-up. Also, Dorothy wants to maybe start an Italian club with me, where we can get ppl together, eat Italian food, and speak Italian (even though I totally don't), and yeah: since I'm OBSESSED with Italy, and kinda wanna move there, I think this shit is a good idea.
Name/Blog:
Dorothy McGivney from Jauntsetter.
What are we looking at here?
A custom made "tram roll" that lists all the places my boyfriend and I have traveled or hung out together, and my home office.
What is it about this spot that works for rocking out blog posts?
My giant monitor is amazing - I bought it refurbished, so saved a serious penny on that, and the extra space visually makes me much more productive than I'd be working off of a laptop. As for my standing desk, my boyfriend built it for me in just a couple of hours from some wood he got at Home Depot. My bookshelf is industrial - originally designed for schools - affordable, and gigantic. So tall, in fact, I couldn't fit it all in one shot - so apologies for not getting a good photo for you. That said, it easily holds all my travel guides and magazines, which are always arm's legnth away for quick inspiration.
Fave blog? (besides ours...OR yours. Nice try):
It's a tie between Jezebel and The Awl; they're two very different sites but I still manage to look at both of them all day long.
Fave online resource?:
Craigslist. It's where I've gotten most of my favorite pieces and for so much cheaper than you'd find in any physical store. A bonus is that most of the serious sellers on Craigslist will deliver and it's easy to negotiate with them over email. In person, I'm not the fiercest bargainer, but somehow via email I can talk anyone down in price.
Cupcakes or brownies?
Cupcakes, which are simply a vehicle for icing in my book. Though I've been meaning to try a cupcake sandwich.
Last thing you bought for your home?
A vegetable spiralizer. Even though I'm a a recovering-vegetarian, sometimes I like to make raw zucchini "pasta" with pesto. I used to use a vegetable peeler to make the zucchini ribbons and they never turned out quite right; halfway through the meal the whole dish would get kind of limp and liquidy. But now with my spiralizer, the dish is both pretty and gets coated with whatever sauce you're using without getting soggy. Admittedly, no New Yorker really needs another appliance in their kitchen but I'm going to go ahead and make the call that this was a necessary purchase. Please check back with me in 6 months to see how many times I've actually used it.
