How To Clean White Painted Floors

Ok, so I get that not a lot of you guys actually have white painted floors, but I do! And before my ass had them, I googled and googled and googled until my fingers fell off and there was literally NO information on how the hell to clean these mofos.

As I've already said, my white floors complete me--they are my single fave design element in our apt.

Are they harder to clean? In a strange way I think they are almost easier to clean because you can see everything so well. BUT, I will say that the x-factor with us is that we have a dog. And our dog sheds his ass all over the place all year long, so even if we didn't have white floors, we'd still have a way bigger floor maintenance ish than most people.

Anyway, here's what the fuck we do (pls keep in mind that I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. My only qualifications are that I painted my floors white 2 years):

  • Vacuum a whole hell of a lot. If I was being really diligent, I'd do this every day, but I'm a fucking slob, so it generally happens about once or twice a week (also, we need a new vacuum...any suggestions)? Before you clean the floor, you MUST vacuum that shiz up.
  • Buy yourself a big ass bottle of Clorox Clean Up with Bleach...actually better make it two. This is the ONLY, I repeat the only shit that has ever worked even a little bit on our floor. Go ahead and get yourself a swiffer wet jet if you want (cause the mop part will be helpful), but there is no other cleaning solution that I have ever come across that cleans up the floor like Clorox Clean Up.
  • I then use one of two methods: hands-n-knees or swiffer + bleach. In all honesty, I mostly use the hands-n-knees method because we have a pretty small apartment (around 700 sft) and it really doesn't take me that long when I get going (plus its an amazing workout).
  • Wet a rag with warm water, spray the Clorox Clean Up on a small section of the floor and scrub. You can either use your hands or your foot...whichever you prefer. But this floor cleaning b.s. requires a bit of elbow grease.
  • After you clean a section or two rinse out the rag and repeat.
  • If you wanna do it with the swiffer instead, you'll have to just keep switching those clean up pads. Also, keep in mind that if you get the wet jet, that solution in there doesn't work, so you still have to use the Clorox Clean Up.

That's pretty much it!

I'm sure you could use regular ole Clorox if you want, though that would require a bucket...and I just find it way easier to use the spray. They spray is also great cause you can then use it for touch-ups (and believe me, you will need to touch this shit up).

Also keep in mind if you ARE doing the hands-n-knees method, watch what you wear. I had on black sweats last week and they got all bleachy on my knees. Also, although the Clorox Clean Up is a diluted version of straight bleach, it does still contain quite a bit of it, so if your hands are sensitive, be careful.

After doing a deep clean on the floor, I mostly use paper towels during the week for touch-ups (i.e. wet a paper towel, spray the Clorox Clean Up, and then go to town).
