Meral Akyuz, a painter represented by the Agora Gallery in New York, uses mixed media to create incredibly intricate and layered pieces.

I'm not trying to make crazy comparisons here, but the use of color and the linear nature of the pieces remind me of Rauschenberg, and I love me some Rauschenberg.

I Used To Get Yelled At For Doing Shit Like This: Ace Hotel Art Project

Remember when you'd try to do shit like write on the wall as a kid and then you'd get screamed at and grounded and then miss your best friend Jodi Levine's birthday party at the zoo? Oh wait...

So, yeah: The Ace Hotel in NYC, in their casual attempt to become the coolest, hippest, hipster mecca on the planet, had artist Kate Neckel come on by and draw all the fuck all over the walls in room 1208. She drew pics of people who worked at the hotel, and owls, and all sorts of shit you just *wish* you were cool enough to even understand. But you're not. So don't even try.

[COOL SHIT] Image Kind

Ok, so there are some seriously killer resources out there these days for cheap, chic art (20x200 and etsy immediately come to mind), but I recently discovered another online option that I'm kind of loving the shit out of: Image Kind.

Image Kind is from the folks at Cafe Press, and basically allows any artist to upload their work and sell it at different sizes, with different framing options. You get to choose the type of paper its printed on, can order mattes, custom frames, OR just get a print.

Now word of warning: you'll get to the front page and you will probably see a bunch of stuff you'd expect to see framed in the home goods section of Marshalls. But keep pressing on!

[COOL SHIT] Noisy Dog Studio Pet Portraits

So, duh: there are like a bajillion and one pet portrait artists out there these days. And I'm sure loads of them are super talented and paint pretty pictures of all your puppies-n-shit, but my favorite, favorite-ist, very fave-y pet portrait artist that I've come across through the years is Leigh from Noisy Dog Studio, and she's having a gigantic sale right now!

Leigh has been featured all over the place, from Design Sponge to Domino Magazine (cue tear to slowly roll down my cheek, I miss you Domino!), and trust me: her shit RULEZ. I'm lucky enough to have had Leigh paint a portrait of Oliver and if our apt caught on fire, this is like one of the first things I'd grab.
