[Who Gives A Shit] This For That?

So, I love, love, LOVE to do this thing, and I don't even know if there is a term for it so I'll call it "this for that." Basically, you just take any object or item that is meant for one particular purpose, and you use it for something else.

BOOM.

That's it.

Doesn't sound very fucking exciting does it? But it sooooo is, in practice. Domino used to do this shit all the time, and I've definitely directly stolen some of the ideas I have implemented around our place from their ZOMGIMISSYOUSOMUCH glossy pages. Like (I can't find a pic!) but I copied the one where someone used a glass vase to hold their paper towels. I also now do something like this in the bathroom:

Only I have a big square vase, so I lay all the rolls of toilet paper on their sides and stack them up.

Wet sponges totally gross me out, so I have a glass jar with shells I've picked up at the beach that sicks next to the sink to hold my sponges. And I love to use gorgeous old crystal ashtrays for all sorts of shit: soap dish in the bathroom, matches holder on our coffee table, and barette catch-all in my closet.

I use vintage scarves to tie up my curtains in our bedroom and use bookends all over our apt as decorative accessories on everything EXCEPT our bookshelves. Basically, if I can come up with an alternative use for any object, I'm in my happy place.
