[COLOR CODED] BLUE SUEDE DESIGN
The very idea of color coding may be as lame as Sandra Lee's tablescapes (Vicodin much?), but WE DON'T CARE.
Color Coded is a series where we pick out cool design stuff based on color. Awww yeah, Rosa Parks—it feels like 1960's Birmingham up in here. LET'S GO!
1. Milos Sofa (Boconcept, $2,495): Look at how sleek this is. How GORGEOUS it is. Too bad that like most modern furniture, this couch is probably as comfortable as getting a colonoscopy. On TV. I'm looking at you, Katie Couric. She probably has a million comfortable couches, though. She's a bazillionaire.
2. Go Collection Love Rocker (Design Within Reach, $731): Ohhhh, outdoor furniture. I long for you mainly because I long for an outdoor area to call my own. But I live in New York City, and private outdoor spaces are reserved for millionaires and/or their mistresses. Since I'm neither a millionaire nor a mistress (does webmistress count? I didn't think so), I've done the thing where I've actually considered whether or not I would be able to grill on my fire escape, only to have my dreams shattered when I remembered that I share my fire escape with my crazy, rent-controlled neighbor who uses it as a place to hang old comforters. The extra fun part? The neighborhood squirrels have turned at least one of those comforters into a nest. How bad do I want burgers? Enough to get rabies? Maybe.
3. Sail Pillow (Wisteria, $89): Again with the nautical stuff, I know, but even if you've never sailed anything in your life, it will make you look the irresistible combination of rich and outdoorsy. You're all like, "Yeah, I could afford the Ritz, but Ima dock my boat and camp on shore, because I am wealthy, but tremendously down-to-earth." See those chicks lining up around the corner? YOU'RE WELCOME.
4. Mod Blue Frames (Burke Decor, $68): I mean, they're picture frames. What else can I say?
5. Hot Air Balloons in Blue Rug (Burke Decor, $675): So, apparently, this is a kids rug, so either I have the design tastes of a small child or a pedophile. You decide. I gotta go get the door. Oh hey, Chris Hansen—what are you doing here?
6. iittala Toikka Blue Bird Glass Bird (Velocity Design, $185): I'm not really into birds (just hot air balloons, I guess) but I do have a weakness for hand-blown glass ever since my trip to the glass factories in Murano. Ladies and gentlemen, the douchiest sentence I've ever written.
7. Bitossi Ceramics (Design Within Reach): I have to admit that these things are a little too Frida Kahlo for me, but they're blue, amiright? You can put them next to your marijuana collection, or whatever you damn hippies do.
