My TV Problem
If you've ever read this blog before, you might have picked up on the fact that I'm TV obsessed. And I don't mean obsessed with a lower case O either ppl, I mean TOTALLY FUCKING CAN'T STOP TILL I GET ENOUGH AND I NEVER GET ENOUGH OBSESSED.
TV is my thing and, goddamit, I just love it so hard.
I need to watch a TV show after I wake up and get ready for work in the morn while I eat my breakfast. I need to watch TV at night before I go to bed. I have TV shows that I full on watch and love and then I have a secondary and third tier of TV shows that I halfway watch while I play on my computer or clean my apartment (I mean, how completely insane is that?!). I need to watch TV on the weekends when I'm laying around and don't feel like moving, and I NEED to watch TV on planes and trains. You get the gist.
And you know what: I'm kind of over everyone being so judgey about it.
I mean, no one comes up to me and tells me I'm a pathetic loser (well, at least not as it relates to my TV habit), but for some reason TV has this stigma attached to it. Whether they say it out loud or not, people seem to think that this TV watchin habit just ain't cool. However, if you're obsessed with: music, art, books, theater, movies...even video games! Somehow it all just seems to be way higher up on our societal acceptance scale than TV is.
Now in fairness: I get that some TV shows out there are complete and total crap. And so I don't make a habit of comparing The Bachelor to Academy Award winning movie The Artist. But also there is some *seriously* good shit on TV these days. And just as some people enjoy trashy romance novels and some enjoy serious works of non-fiction, my TV repertoire includes everything from Mad Men and Breaking Bad to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Gossip Girl. Yes I'm completely obsessed with the ABC family channel (ain't nothing family about it ppl: give Pretty Little Liars or The Lying Game a try), but also I watch CBS News Sunday Morning.
Here's the thing, I'm even embarrassed by it too!
I find myself downplaying my TV watching sometimes out in social situations cause it feels like I'm doing something dirty or untoward.
WELL ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
When I'm not pinning, TV is my crack pipe. There...I said it.
You should also probably be aware of the following:
- I have two Tivos that can each record 2 things at once, and most of the time those btchz are taping 4 THINGS AT ONCE.
- Our cable/internet bill costs $170/mo...AND I DON'T EVEN CARE.
- I'm a Netflix subscriber, but I think I've watched a movie maybe 1 or 2 times total in over 2 years. The only reason they've got me is cause of all the TV shows they have.
- I pretty much watch every show on TV. Here's an abbreviated list: Good Wife, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, The Lying Game, Revenge, Real Housewives (NJ, NY, GA, Bev Hills, Miami, DC, OC), Modern Family, Parks & Rec, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Bachelor/Bachelorette, Project Runway, Top Chef, Bethenney Ever Whatever, Ringer, Jersey Shore, So You Thnk You Can Dance, The Voice, Mob Wives, Saturday Night Live, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Dexter, The Killing, American Horror Story, Glee, Revenge (holy shit that show is good!), Psychic Kids, 20/20, Unforgettable, Sister Wives etc. You get the drift.
There it is...the cold hard truth.
Are we still friends?
