Have you ever had your style ripped off? It happens to me every now and then and it. is. irritating. I'm not claiming to be any type of design genius. Unfortunately, when it comes to my taste in interiors, I'm above average but below exceptional. This means that I don't have enough talent to make a living as a designer, just enough sense to hate ugly shit. It's a frustrating place to be in. I'm just ahead of the curve - I'll envision something specific that I want for my home and painstakingly search for it. Then, two years later, it's everywhere, everyone has it, and I don't even want it anymore. Gar.

[DEAR DIARY] In Defense of White Floors & Doing What You Want

White floors RAWK!

BOOM!

There I said it....and I mean it. Like, for realz.

We bought our apt in Brooklyn two years ago. It's a fab place in a pre-war building with a killer layout, and almost zero wasted space. However, our apartment faces the building's courtyard and, therefore, doesn't get a whole lot of light.

I started pouring over design mags immeds, and every time I saw a place with white floors I was stopped in my tracks. I mean, jaw open, tongue wagging, it was all I could do to not actually start licking the pages of the fucking magazine.

To All My Fellow Fallen Apartment Therapy Small, Cool Comrades: We Salute You!

So yeah, we had our brief moment under the spotlight, and I'm not gonna lie: I loved the shit out of it.

On a whim, I decided to enter our aparment in Apartment Therapy's Small, Cool contest. From the seconds in between when I hit that "submit" button until the moment our place got posted on their site, I was completely convinced that we'd never get picked. But then once we did, I would have bet you a million dollars that we would have won the whole damn thing.

And yeah...we so didn't.
