Photography Tips for Non-Photographers

I read this post on photography tips on Justina Blakeney's blog, and I loved em all as they are mostly targeted toward those of us who take pics with our iphones. 

Like this one: 

1.2 Flash = no no
For whatever reason, the flash always makes my photos look cheesy-- so I don't use it.

Uhm, YES!? WTF, iPhone!? Except I would replace "cheesy" with deep down dirty horrendous, momentously awful or horrible times a billion. 

I have literally never seen a good iPhone picture taken with a flash. Do they exist? They're like unicorns.

[FOR A GOOD CAUSE] Lomography Loves Japan

This week, Lomography launched a trio of Lomography Loves Japan special edition cameras to help with earthquake assistance.

The idea for these cameras was originally conceived to commemorate Japan's Golden Week, but now the cameras have taken on a whole new meaning. 

Unfamiliar with Lomography?  It's how you get hipster-esque photos like you do in Instagram, but on film instead of on your iPhone.

[I'M OBSESSED] The Sartorialist

Even if you don't give a rat's ass about fashion...or photography...or style, you're still a real life crazy person if you don't visit The Sartorialist several times a week. If I had to choose one site as my absolute, hands down fave, that site would definitely be it.

I LOVE IT SO HARD. Also Scott Schuman, the brains and galactically talented photographer behind the site, is like THE OG fashion blogger. The dude literally kinda invented the concept of street fashion blogging as we know it.

iPhoneography Is The Bomb Diggity

So, duh: everyone has clearly heard of photography, and everyone has clearly heard of an iPhone, but have you heard of iphoneography?

Cause this is like a real thing now: the art of taking photos on your iPhone. And I'm so stoked that I stumbled into it because it will fucking rule your face just as hard as it rules mine.

Over the past year or so I've gotten way more interested in photography...and its all due to my iPhone.

And newsflash: you can take AMAZING FUCKING PICTURES on your iPhone--espesh if your ass is lucky enough to have the new one (which I don't even have yet).

[DESIGN CRUSH] Ellen Matthews, SNL Photog

l've always loved the photographs shown during the commercial breaks during SNL...like sometimes more than the actual show. And thanks to I Heart You, a chick who is way the fuck less lazier than I am, I now know these photographs are taken by Mary Ellen Matthews.
