Cool or Not Cool: Pets on Furniture?
It's kind of fascinating when you start to uncover all the different rules people have for their pets:
* "Minnie is allowed on the den couch, but not on the Living Room couch. And she can go up on the kids' beds but not on my bed."
* "Smoky can rock out wherever he wants...EXCEPT for our bed. That's a no fly zone"
* "Luna isn't allowed on any of our furniture. Dogs used to sleep on the ground in the cold...he doesn't need to ruin my Chesterfield."
Whoa...Luna's mom is kind of a bitch.
Anyway.
As for us, Oliver pretty much has free reign in our house. In fact, after we got him, we decided to rethink our entire furniture plan and get rid of anything that *wasn't* Oliver friendly (i.e. required any sort of major de-hairing). This is why we now have two leather couches. To make matters worse, the dude can't even get up onto our bed unless we pick him up and put him there...so its not even like we can use the ole "well, he just jumped up here...I can't help it!" excuse. But whatevs, we dig it.
What about you? Pets on furniture, oui or non?

My dog Lenny is allowed on everything. I tried keeping him off the bed, but I finally gave up on that shit.
My two cats are allowed on anything that doesn't have breakables on them or where food is prepared. They're also not allowed inside my closets, because I just know they'll get locked inside by accident and sit there for hours and pee on my things until I discover them again.
If I'm being truthful, I'm kind of weirded out by people who don't let their pets on their furniture. Doesn't that go against the whole idea of having pets in the first place? I don't know...maybe I'm just a sucker (Dusty is allowed on all furniture, everywhere).
We are alarmed to learn that some dog Owners make furniture rules, but even more alarmed to learn that some pets follow them ....Really? I think the humans are kidding themselves. What do you think happens as soon as you step out the door? Sofa Party! It might look sorta like this: http://raleighpop.wordpress.com/2010/05/02/photo-op-may-day-hawt-in-here/
So in conclusion, from a dogs perspective, pet friendly furniture is the only way to go.
I have a cat, so if she can reach it, she's on it. Luckily, that actually leaves out the kitchen counters, bathroom sink, dressers, etc. because she's 12 years old now and just can't hack it anymore.
