[DESIGN STAR RECAP] Episode 4: Flower Power

Well bitches, its been a wet hot American summer all up in this piece, and I for one missed the shit out of our favorite Design Star whack pack as I was sweating my ass off over the July 4th weekend. But, hooray! They were back last night and better than ever (and by better, of course, I mean way, way, WAY worse).

Mostly I'd just like to thank Gawd almighty up in heaven above for giving us the gift that is Nina. Whoever cast this show deserves a gigantic fucking raise for finding this mural obsessed, one trick pony and I for one want to make sure they do not go unrecognized. I SALUTE YOU, HGTV CASTING DEPT!

[WHERE I BLAHG]: Meri Cherry

Each week we'll pull back the curtain, and give you an insider's look into the lives of some of your favorite bloggers with 'Here's where I blahg.' This week: Meri from Meri Cherry.

Yes, Meri Cherry's name is *actually* Meri Cherry (amazing, right?), and rather than run from it, she's decided to go ahead and totally friggin embrace it. She recently launched her blog to document her life as a newly married kindergarten art teacher in Los Angeles, devotee of The Artist's way, and felt ball obsessive (and true confessions: I want some goddamned felt balls now too). There are loads of great art project ideas for your kiddos (if you've got some) and if not, you can keep busy with adorable tidbits about Meri's life (like her recent trip to Europe).

[A GIRL CAN DREAM] Property Furniture

Property Furniture—a New York City-based design house—has so much cool shit that I can't even contain myself.  Of course, as with all beautiful things, they're probably massively expensive, especially since none of these things come with a pricetag (I guess if you have to ask....).

Who Gives A Shit: Your Geographical Soulmate?

At the beach in AmalfiA recent convo with @cailinash on Twitter got me thinking about travel again, and I was reminded of this idea of a "geographical soulmate."

I've been using this phrase for awhile, and I'm intrigued by the idea that we all have one. So, just like many people believe that we have "soulmates" in our lives (friends, lovers, husbands, wives), I think we all might actually also have geographical soulmates.

For me, it's Italy (Florence, specifically, but you can pretty much drop my ass off ANYWHERE in Italy and I'll be a happy camper).

Who Gives A Shit: Honoring Those We Loved At Home?

So to get serious for just a lil min, I thought I'd use the fact that today was my mom's bday to talk about honoring those we loved around our homes (that's a pic of her!). My mom passed away a few years ago from a horrendous blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma (I've written a bit about it here and here, and was also lucky enough to be included in the Stand Up To Cancer special on TV where Halle Berry (!!??) read a little blurb about my mom Marcia--you can see it at 2:43 here).

Anyway, needless to say, I miss the shit out of her and still think about her every day. I have some fab photos of the two of us around our apartment (mostly from when I was younger, as I prefer to remember her looking young and vivacious, ya know?).

But I'm curious, aside from the obvious framed photo approach, what things others have you done around your homes to remember those we've loved who have passed away?
